Day One

THE EMPTY TUMMY
 BY PIA MATTIX DAVIS

During the holidays, while running errands, and completing tasks, it is easy for us to forget that meal times are approaching, but our Little Ones aren’t as absent minded.  Instead of verbalizing that they are hungry, young children and older children can become whiny, stubborn, tearful, and might descend in into full blown tantrums when their needs are not met.  As moms we can ignore the urge to eat while we are dashing in and out of stores until we have the time to satisfy our appetite, but unfortunately children don't have the ability to remain composed when hungry.  Keeping healthy snacks on hand can help to satiate tiny tummies until a meal is provided.

Fresh fruits and vegetables are ideal for snacking, but they won't last long in the bottom of a bag.  To ensure that you always have food on hand, I have provided a list of shelf stable snacks to keep in your purse or car to offer when meals are delayed or your little one needs a bite to eat this holiday season!

What snacks do you keep on hand for your Little One?  Share with us at Positive Parenting for Black Moms on Facebook.

Crackers
Almond Butter Packets
Bags of Popcorn (Only give popcorn to children over the age of five)
Nibbly Fingers (Perfect for babies over the age of one)
Jammy Sammy
Pirates Booty
GoGo Squeeze Pouches
Freeze Dried Fruits
